2013 US Opens - Aug2013

As a member of the Australia A team (selected from results at Australian Open Champs) Kelly traveled from Melbourne to Irvine, Los Angeles, with 12 other swimmers from around Australia. The purpose of the team was to compete at a high level long course competition, which runs at the same time as the 2013 World Championships. Competitors at the US open consisted of American, South African, Canadian, and British athletes, all who narrowly missed selection for their respective countries World Championships team.

It was a 5 day meet with heats starting at 9am and finals at 5pm. One thing that was really important for the Australians to do was to race fast in the heats so that we made the A finals for our races. There is so much depth in the events, some only had 0.70sec separating 1st to 24th place. So in order to get into the A finals we had to take our heat swims as finals as well.
